We say this with much greater pride than ever as the 400th year of our beloved University draws nearer. Yes, four centuries… four hundred golden years of providing academic excellence and bringing forth millions of competent professionals all over the globe.

University of Santo Tomas, the Royal, Pontifical, and the oldest existing university in Asia and the largest Catholic University in a single campus in the world, will be celebrating its quadricentennial foundation year on 2011.  In true Thomasian spirit, the University’s Faculty of Medicine and Surgery Department of Neurology and Psychiatry will hold its annual scientific meeting on January 19 to 21, 2011 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Manila to coincide with the University’s grand festivities.

Following the successes of the previous Neuroscience Initiative meetings, the next annual scientific event is aptly entitled Quadricentennial Neuroscience Summit 2011. It is a fitting name to jumpstart the celebration of our alma mater.

We are currently living in a very exciting scientific era. Thus was born the Neuroscience Initiative project. The yearly summit is a brainchild of the faculty and staff of the department that started since 2005.  It primarily aims to pique the interests of our colleagues in the various subspecialties of the Neurosciences and Behavioral Medicine by provision of a fertile and conducive avenue for meaningful scientific exchange and sharing of new insights and pragmatic advances in the basic and clinical aspects of neurology and psychiatry.  It expanded to involve our primary physicians and general practitioners particularly those who have much interest in continuing medical education of highest degree of excellence.

To foster the mission and vision of this ambitious project for this forthcoming Quadricentennial Neuroscience Summit 2011, we have invited several distinguished, well-respected and renowned international speakers to share with the delegates and participants current trends in their respective subspecialty basic and clinical fields in neurology and behavioral medicine.

In behalf of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery Department of Neurology and Psychiatry, it is our pleasure and privilege to welcome all the participants of this glorious event. May we all bask in fruitful discussions and pass the baton forward to our deserving patients.
